Just got back from my little getaway with my BFFs and am now posting this in a daze. Its difficult even to think of a title for this blog but I made this bento before I left and did not have time to post it. Its a very simple bento this time and not much decor or anything kawaii. So here it is:-
In this I obviously had a ham and cheese sandwich with three little ham hearts on top of it. There’s also a little egg salad with a tomato, grapes, pear and granola bar. Oh now coming to the interesting part of this post.
I was in Koh Samui, Thailand and went for a cooking class there. Look at how they serve me the rice below at the end of our class:-
Amazing isn’t it? All the way in a little island and they made something “bentoable”! This is Thai jasmine rice and it is really yummy on its own. Will post about my class and a recipe for Phad Thai later. Now gotta go get some sleep some more and hope the rashes will go away.
Finally, am getting a bit of the bento making spirit back or rather, the energy after the jet-lag. My fridge had also been emptied during my absence as hubs had to feed himself instead of getting hot home cooked food from my mum when I am around. Haha! So went to stock up a bit of items over the weekend and made these this morning:-
The above bentos has egg mayo in wholemeal bread cut into two heart shapes, cod fish fingers, two colours cherry tomatoes, mini mandarin, tiny grapes and a little extra treat, Hershey’s Mini Nugget Chocolate. Also decorated the bentos with lettuce leaves, carrot flowers and cheese. Overall it was a really scrumptious breakfast. I actually ate them for two meals, breakfast and lunch.
Oh, was so happy with the contents I almost forgot to rave about the boxes. If you notice, these boxes are new!! Yes! Grand opening today. Mine was a gift, also from my little cuz from Japan. So sweet, right? They knew I love Hello Kitty and they bought it for me. Hubs’ was purchased from Japan Centre (www.japancentre.com) during my trip to London. It was kind of expensive at £7.99 but I don’t have something so “serious” and “manly” box for hubs, so I bought it! Haha! These boxes came with their own compartment for a pair of chopsticks too! Anyway here are the pictures of them with their lids on. Aren’t they cool?
I’m home! I’m home! Yea! But but, I’ve only been gone for something more than a week and I’m feeling rusty in my bento making. I guess I’m still jet-lagging. So pardon me for the ugly bento post this morning. I made a quick BLT tortilla with some roughly cut up melon and some grapes for the vitamins and fibre. The brightest thing about this bento is the box itself! Haha! I bought it from the Disney Store at Covent Garden in London and guess how much I paid for it?!? £1.99!! Yes, its a real bargain!!! It comes with two mini separators too and that’s how I could conveniently pack my breakfast this morning. Here’s my ugly bento in a pretty box:-
Of course, I didn’t just buy one bento box during my trip. I bought another two more!! One from Japan Centre and another from Paperchase. Thanks to Mils of “Not Another Brown Bag Lunch” (http://notabrownbag.wordpress.com/) for her post on the “Where Can I Buy Bentos” (http://notabrownbag.wordpress.com/where-can-i-buy-bentos/), I managed to find these heavenly places to stock up my bento collection. Haha! Will post pictures of these two other boxes next time as they are still in my luggage.
Wow the title of my post this morning seems really long. But I like it! Haha. I actually made these bentos yesterday but did not have any time to post them. It’s been awhile since my last post coz my little girl had been unwell and I had been busy preparing for my trips! Yes, tripS! Am going to London tonight for a week, to Koh Samui end of the month for four days with my best gals, then to Singapore for a great family trip first week of October! Am kinda overwhelmed with excitement but at the same time am already missing my hubs and my little girl loads. Promised her I’ll be calling home everyday so she’ll still get to hear my voice. ‘Sob’ ‘Sob’…
Anyway, here’s the bento I made yesterday for hubs. Did not show mine coz its the same except I used my favourite Hello Kitty sauce container instead. So here, I used a new stainless steel box that my mum bought for me from Thailand. She also bought me a cute small two tier tiffin which I can’t wait to use.
In the box is two mini pita bread with chicken mayo. I finally managed to find these cute mini pitas at a grocer near my house. They are cute and totally delicious. There’s also celery, mini corns, dried raisins and cranberry, few slices of oranges, grapes, cherry tomato and checkered apple. My first attempt in making checkered apple and I believe it was a success. Don’t you think so? It looks so pretty in the box. I also added some salad dressing in the Pooh Pooh sauce container. Overall, there’s not much cuteness but I love it!
Oh and I had a little surprise yesterday! Look below and you’ll see why I was surprise:-
Tadaa! My little cousins went to Japan last month and they bought me new bento gears!! And a extremely sweet Hello Kitty box! I was so touched at the their thoughtfulness. I can’t wait to try them out! Thanks Eileen, Shir and Jo!
That’s all for now until my return with more bento gears from London!!!!
Finally, I am able to announce the winner of my first giveaway, the Yum Yum Bento Box – Fresh Recipes for Adorable Lunches by Crystal “Pikko” Watanabe and Maki Ogawa! Thank you to all that had participated.
The winner’s name was drawn up by my little girl, Eva. Coz I am not that savvy with the automated number generator application for such contest, I decided to rely on the most indifferent and independent judge i.e. my little girl in the pictures below!
Congratulations Sarah! Thank you for participating and hope you’ll enjoy the gift. And thank you all that had participated as well as all the other bento masters and maestros that had help to promote my giveaway. Hope to do more of this in the future coz it’s fun!!
